Deep vein thrombosis is the formation of a blood clot which is often found in the deep veins of the legs and is a silent, and serious condition that may occur suddenly without prior symptoms. The blood clot that has formed may block the free flow through veins and cause pain, swelling, skin that is warm to the touch and darkening or discolouration of the skin. If you experience any of these symptoms it is important to go to the doctor or hospital immediately as the clot formed may dislodge and travel to other parts of the body and can be fatal.
Most importantly, seek proper medical attention if you experience any of the warning signs. Always keep a record of your and your family’s medical history. Always wear a medical alert bracelet to indicate conditions such as diabetes, food and medication allergies.
